New module - Members Directory

The most significant change in this release of Kontrolit, was the addition of a new module, the Members Directory. The Members Directory was built in response to a few requests we received from customers who wanted a facility to display and search a list of their site members. The new members directory module makes use of Bing mapping technology to show and search a list of the registered members details who have opted to have their details displayed on the website.

The directory allows the website owner to:

  • Set the default center point and zoom level for the map
  • Choose the default map style
  • Tag members profiles so these can be filtered / searched via these tags
  • Make use of the Bing 3D mapping technology

New module - Product Enquiries

For site owners that are interested in displaying their product catalogue without asking visitors to pay, the new Product Enquiries module fits the bill.  Many of the great features from our online shop are also found in this comprehensive module, including product grouping and personalisation, related products, unlimited categories, search by manufacturer, featured and recommended products etc.

Updated members area

Looking to run your club or society membership through your web site?  Then the updated members area now had the facilities for site owners to setup different membership types, allow members to print invoices for paid membership types and for site owners to send reminder emails when membership is expiring.

Google Base for online shops

We have included a new product export facility specifically to integrate with Google Base. This provides an easy method of importing your product information for display in Google Shopping.

Twitter component added

Integrate your tweets into your website using the new Twitter component.

Yahoo & Bing site verification

Akin to the Google site verification which was built into earlier versions of Kontrolit, you can now also verify your site with Bing and Yahoo. This means that for both Yahoo and Bing you can submit your website site map XML files to increase the pages indexed by those search engines.

Sort enquiries by status

Display enquiries by status in the admin panel to make it easier to track what has been dealt with and what still needs attention.

Upgraded Google analytics code

Google have recently introduced changes to their analytics code, we have therefore upgraded our code in Kontrolit to ensure that it remains compatible with Google analytics.

RSS improvements (highlighted in browser)

If your page provides an RSS feed your browser RSS button will now turn orange.

Comment spam filtering using Akismet

We can’t stand spam. Who can? You have better things to do with your life than deal with the underbelly of the Internet. Automatic Kismet (Akismet for short) is a collaborative effort to make comment and track back spam a non-issue and restore innocence to blogging, so you never have to worry about spam again.

Updated site export

Our website export script now includes all components and menus which means you will not lose any content when upgrading between versions of Kontrolit post V3.50.

Canonical link elements added to the site for better search engine positioning

Google created an HTML element called a "canonical link element" in an effort to help its search engines determine preferred URLs and sorting out duplicate content on websites.  We have integrated this new link element tag throughout Kontrolit which will help search engines decipher which pages should be indexed.
