A set of USENET news-groups that often contain articles on controversial subjects usually considered to be outside of the mainstream. These newsgroups were originally created to avoid the rigorous process required to create a normal USENET newsgroup. Some alt news-groups contain valuable discussions on subjects that range from agriculture to wolves, others contain sexually-explicit material, and still others are just for fun. Not all service providers and online services give access to the complete set of ALT newsgroups.
